NEW ORLEANS – The seeds and pairings for the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Basketball Championship have been determined following the conclusion of the conference’s regular-season slate of games Saturday evening. The tournament, hosted at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, La., begins Wednesday, March 11 and the Championship Game will be played Saturday, March 14.

The top three seeds of the tournament were determined following Thursday’s games as UALR, the conference’s regular season champion, earned the No. 1 seed. The Trojans are 25-4 overall and 18-2 in Sun Belt play. The 18 wins tied a Sun Belt record for conference wins in a season.

UALR will take on eighth-seeded Georgia State (13-16, 8-12 SBC) in Wednesday’s first game at 11:30 a.m. CT. Georgia State and UL Monroe both finished with identical 8-12 records in conference play but the Panthers swept the Warhawks this season and therefore earned the eighth and final seed for the tournament.

Arkansas State will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament following its win over South Alabama on Thursday. The 16 conference wins the Red Wolves (21-9, 16-4 SBC) earned this year are a new program record, surpassing the previous total (14) set last year. The 21 wins amassed this season marked the first time the team posted 20 or more wins in back-to-back seasons since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 campaigns.

A-State will square off with seventh-seeded Appalachian State (14-15, 9-11 SBC) on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. CT.

Troy (20-9, 15-5 SBC) enters the tournament as one of the hottest teams not only in the Sun Belt but in the country as they are riding an eight-game winning streak. The Trojans of Troy are the No. 3 seed in the tournament.

Troy is the only team to have defeated both top seeds, UALR and Arkansas State, this season. The Trojans will look to make it nine-straight as they will face sixth-seeded UL Lafayette (18-10, 10-10 SBC) in Wednesday night’s finale at 7:30 p.m. CT

Texas State (16-13, 11-9 SBC) will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will face fifth-seeded UT Arlington (17-12, 11-9 SBC) in Wednesday’s second game at 2:00 p.m. CT. The Bobcats swept the Mavericks in their season series this year and therefore earned the tiebreaker and No. 4 seed over the Mavericks.

The winners of Wednesday’s games will advance to Friday’s semifinals with the two winning teams from Friday’s games scheduled to meet on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. CT for the tournament championship.

All games of the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
